Tommi Makinen signs for the Subaru World Rally Team

The Subaru World Rally Team announced today that Tommi Makinen willjoin the team in 2002. The four-time World Rally Champion, andco-driver Risto Mannisenmaki, will join Subaru on a two year contract.

"I felt it was time for a change, and I'm delighted that Subaru hasgiven me this fantastic opportunity," said 37 year old Tommi. "Theteam has a clear concept of how to win the WRC, and I'm proud that I'mgoing to be to be part of that. I have a lot of respect for Subaru andI am really looking forward to working with everyone there."

Team Principal David Lapworth said, "No driver even comes close tomatching Tommi's record of achievements over the last five years. Whenhe joins us next season the sky's the limit on what we can achieve asa team. Tommi will be the perfect team leader and it will be ourprimary goal to make him World Champion in 2002."
